ROSA – The Danish Rock Council is pleased to announce that Mew will be rounding off this year’s SPOT Festival late Saturday night - or technically speaking Sunday the 12th, since they are going to enter the stage of Ridehuset three quarters of an hour after midnight.

Later this summer, Mew are going to release their new album, which has been produced by Michael Beinhorn (Soundgarden, Korn, Marilyn Manson). The album is Mew’s second release with EPIC/SONY after they signed an international contract with that record company right after SPOT 07.

Their gig at SPOT 11 is going to be the first live performance of the new material. After SPOT 11, they will be playing support for R.E.M. at four concerts before appearing at Roskilde as well at the Skanderborg Festival.

The late unveiling of Mew as part of the SPOT 11 programme is due to two things: firstly, the band’s management has signed exclusive agreements with other organisers; secondly, it is the ambition of the SPOT Festival to focus on the depth of the line up with a total 107 acts rather than on just a single one. It’s not SPOT policy to feature one big name to sell tickets, as Gunnar Madsen, managing director of ROSA and the SPOT Festival, puts it.

"That said, we are of course thrilled about the fact that Mew are going to play at our festival. They made their live debut at SPOT, and they are a band that ROSA has supported abroad on several occasions over the years – showcases as well as concerts. And now we are the first to present the audience to Mew’s new material", says Gunnar Madsen, who does not try to conceal how pleased he is with this scoop.

In this connection, the organisers of the SPOT Festival would like to point out that the SPOT stages have limited capacity. It is therefore advisable to show up well in advance of the start of the concerts – not least, obviously, when it comes to the big acts.

There is another change in the programme – Swedish Anna Ternheim has been forced to withdraw from the singer/songwriter programme on Friday at AroS. She will be replaced by Amalie Riis and Pernille Gunvad, both of whom are going to give 20-minutes performances with their respective bands.
