On stage abroad

Friday | 18.30 | Lille Sal

Playing live abroad is part of most Danish bands’ dreams, and quite a lot of Danish bands have found their way tovenues and festivals around Europe. But what is it like out there? SPOT has invited representatives from three of our neighbouring countries to give us their descriptions of the live stages in the UK, the Netherlands, and Germany. All the panellists are bookers and organizers of gigs.

Bob Paterson (UK)
Since 1999, Bob Paterson has been working for the East Central One agency booking tours for Oh Susanna, Blue Rodeo, Bap Kennedy, Tom Russell, Robbie McIntosh, and yet others. He has also promoted live music at the The 12-Bar Club and The Spitz in London. Furthermore, over the last five years, the Englishman has had his own radio shows at CMR and SpydaRadio, and in addition to that he has also been working with Bob Harris at Radio 2.

Igor Mönnink (NL)
Igor Mönnink has years of experience as a musician, tour manager, and stage/production manager. He represents the Buro Gogo agency which has operated as promoter and booker all over Europe for the last 20 years from its base in Holland. The agency also deals with tour management, rehearsal rooms, and productions. For 9 years now, Buro Gogo has been in charge of booking and scheduling for Eurosonic, Groningen – the European equivalent of SXSW.

Mick Köppe (D)
Up through the 90’s, the former woodman Mick Köppe took care of booking his own band Paradocs’ gigs, but when after three albums, the band split in 1999, he founded his own A.S.S. Concert & Promotion in Hamburg. Since then, he has booked German and international bands for gigs in Germany as well as the rest of the world. According to Köppe working with musicians is a lot harder than chopping down trees – on the other hand it is never boring!

Ulrich Lauridsen (moderator)
Lauridsen is an experienced booker – in fact he used to book for SPOT – and record company owner. In the years 94- 97, his one-man-project Kaleidoscope organised gigs in Aarhus, and it was around then he started writing for music mags – Gaffa, Wild, and Zoo. Then followed 6 years as a booker for VEGA and The Agency Group. In 2001, he founded the record company Glorious Records which has now expanded to also include booking and management.
