Kitty Wu - SPOT 11, Train

Kitty Wu played another excellent Spot concert, this time in front of a more than ready crowd in Train. They are soon to release their third album but they didn’t reveal much material from it during the concert. When they did play a couple of new songs, it didn’t cause any significant reactions from the audience and it didn’t show any major development in Kitty Wu’s song writing.

But then again; the quartet has never been known for producing sing-along-hits, but rather more thoughtful songs that slowly work their way under one’s skin. With that in mind, it wasn’t surprising that Eva Braun from the first album was the audience’s favourite song. Saying that, it wasn’t the only highlight in the one-hour long concert that promised something great from the very first song This Building Is On Fire. From the start, Kitty Wu’s loyal fans were ready and full of expectations which the band lived up to with an energitic perfomance and a massive volume, threatening to knock down the building. Effective and well done.

The upcoming record is entitled ”Knives and Daggers” and the guitar sound was truly as sharp as a blade. In all it’s ugliness, it was a beautiful contrast to the more melancholic and thoughtful pieces.

Guitarists Allan Schøneberg and lead singer Robert Lund complemented each other perfectly, and drummer Claus Bergman with the devastating snare drum and bass player Samuel Helles played tight and dynamically. A true pleasure. Together those musicians are one of Denmark’s best playing live acts. Which they proved again tonight.

Review: 5 out of 6 stars
From: Århus, Denmark
Signed to: Mercury
Genre and reputation: Post rock. I bit to complex to draw the attention of the large audince of record buyers and to hard to get the deserved attention in the radio. A solid label to back them and a dedicated support group in Denmark and partly in Germany. Experienced live act.
