By Rasmus Ardahl, Gaffa | Foto: Jan Chrillesen | | Tina Dico from Aarhus has build up an outstanding back-catalogue, and played a selection of both new and old songs Friday evening. The noisy crowd at Ridehuset stage did not provide the best background for Dico’s downplayed and intimate show, even if Dico’s return to Aarhus was certainly appreciated be the audience.
Recently released from her contract with Sony, a direct consequence of the merge with BMG, Dico has rescheduled the release date for her new album In the Red to 25th of July. Among the songs Dico performed from the album, especially the song Give In distinguished itself as single-material, succeeding the already released single Nobody’s Man.
Dico’s thoughtful songs, her intense vocal and the rock solid, if somewhat anonymous, performance by the band made for a great show in Aarhus. Martin Sommer wasn’t fully able to replace the distinct character of the female voicing in the choruses, a Dico trademark that was missed at the concert. But Dico proved once again that she is one of Denmark’s finest songwriters, and hopefully she will soon receive greater recognition outside of Denmark.
