By Mads Just-Olesen, MyMusic.dk | Foto: Didde Elnif | | Denmark is a small country, Utah want to make it big. Utah was the opening act on the Train venue. Recently returned from a successful US tour and with brand new material, Utah was ready and set to prove themselves worthy of a slot in the Spot11 program and they did prove themselves worthy - USA did Utah good and made them great.
The Venue Train was packed and it seemed to me, that not everybody knew the music, so the word of Utah's return had the good fortune of being spread by word of mouth. Derservingly, cos Utah has quite a uniqie style, even though the music is very catchy.
Utah is strongly influenced by such names as Radiohead and Coldplay, but they add new elements to the established sound of brit-rock. Country-style bass lines and added synth strings helped shape an individual and unique profile for Utah. The well-packed crowd was pleased by the bands grandiose sound, a sound that should inspire major labels like Universal Records to sign them up with a big contract. Utah is no indieband, their music is just too big and too commercial.
Review: 5 out of 6 stars
From: Århus, Denmark
Signed to: self financed album "Break the Mould" out now.
Genre and reputation: Indie with a slash of americana. One of the more outgoing bands of the growing indie scene in Århus. Has toured Germany and USA, where they have recieved quite a lot of college radio air play. Well visited when in Denmark.
